Lucca station seen from the binari/platforms

Lucca (Lucca)

Lucca train station/stazione is not served by express trains, so it lacks the full range of facilities. that are commonly found at major stations in Italy.

But it is more than adequate for most traveller's needs - ticket office, station cafe, waiting room etc.
Lucca sttion has also been rennovated in recent years, so what is one of Italy's most attractive stations, now has lifts that link the platforms/tracks/binari to the entrance/exit.

Lucca station is a 5 - 10 min walk from the southern edge of beautiully preserved town centre.

To access the town centre (Piazza Napoleone area) on foot, keep to the left of the grassed square that is in front of the station.
When you reach the main road in front of you, turn to the left, less than a 5 min walk along this road and over to the right, behind a triangle of grass, is an ornamental stone gate.
The edge of the old town is on the other side of this gate.}

Or if you will be heading to the Duomo or the Baluardo Saint Colombano then head straight ahead from the station, cross the main street and follow a path way that leads through the city walls, the Duomo di San Martino is less than a 10 min walk from Lucca station.

However, you don't have to walk to the town centre as there are frequent local buses that link station to the centre of Lucca.

Lines Green and Blue go to the Napoleone stop, adjacent to many of the town's main tourist sights.
